Introduction: link readings What is Creative Nonfiction? (Lee Gutkind) | Making Scenes in Memoir (Lee Martin) This post that I'm going to be opening up about making Wudu (is the Islamic procedure for washing parts of the body, a type of ritual purification, or ablution.) The looks and responses I get for "doing the most." One of the very first pillar of Islam is praying five times a day. The prayers are divided into five parts of the day, dawn, afternoon, mid/late afternoon, sunset and night. During the day Muslims make Wudu because you have to be clean to pray to Allaah so that we may have peace. It can be uncomfortable when I have to make Wudu in school and at work because of the looks, questions, and comments I get among the women in the bathroom. First and foremost the bathrooms are always neat and clean. So that’s always a good thing to wash up before prayer in a decent place. When I take Wudu the water always taste refreshing like I can feel my breath literally being “colgate clean” because you want to be as neat as you can when facing Allaah. The feeling of water on my body gives me a sense of relief and relaxation from everywhere. Almost like a bath meditation. Also get this...I went online once to see ways to relax for when you’re not praying and the first thing the article suggested is to Drip Cold Water On Your Wrists. SubhanaAllaah (means a sense of swimming or being immersed in something.) It is used as a phrase of simple exclamation—for example, "Wow!" Look at that, literally water everywhere! Going on to taking Wudu. It’s not the fact that it’s embarrassing or that I’m too shy, it’s sometimes that the women want to ask me questions while washing up. Sometimes when I do Wudu the water gets everywhere so all the next person from the stall see is water on the surfaces and ground. (p.s. I always clean up when I’m done) At work, they’re like “ummm...your hands are clean like how long are you going to keep scrubbing?” Or say something like “Oh I know what you’re doing! That’s that thing right? That jawn Muslims gotta do before they pray” and during ablution I can’t talk because I have to concentrate on getting physically prepared as well. And we’re not allowed to talk in the bathroom also because it is considered the place of girl and evil-place like for the devil so we shouldn’t have conversations. So you can imagine how it’s like daily. On most days I’m left alone to do what I need to do but there are other days when I can’t even have peace while using the toilet. At the end of the day I am Muslim, whether I’m looked and judged or not I have to get out of my comfortable zone to do what I need to do. Stay true to yourself and life will be ok. http://www.newmuslim.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/What-Are-the-Conditions-and-Obligatory-Acts-of-Wudu-1.jpg https://www.thoughtco.com/islamic-phrases-subhanallah-2004290

Thanks for sharing this part of your life. I gained insight into Wudu. This post uses conversational language to reveal parts of the writer’s personality and worldview. I see a humorous tone here as well. Why did you make that rhetorical choice (not a bad thing...just curious)?
